Magellan Pharmaceutical Development Advances Staff to Accommodate Growth

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (June 12, 2002)) - Magellan Pharmaceutical Development, a full-service contract pharmaceutical development organization (PDO) formerly known as Magellan Laboratories and now owned by Cardinal Health, elevates William Stagner, Ph.D., Robert Woodhouse, Ph.D. and Jeffrey Browne, Ph.D., in response to the company's global expansion.

"One of our priorities in developing the organization's structure is to utilize opportunities that provide growth and development for our staff," says Lowry Caudill, president of pharmaceutical development at Magellan. "We are truly fortunate to have internal candidates with the strengths and skills to take on these challenging responsibilities."

William Stagner, Ph.D., has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of Magellan's Somerset, N.J. facility and Swindon, U.K. development facility. Stagner founded the Magellan Pharmaceutics Division in 1999 and has served as senior vice president and general manager of its laboratories in Research Triangle Park (RTP). Prior to Magellan, Stagner created the Pharmaceutics Division at Glaxo, Inc., in RTP as well as designed, built and validated the Glaxo pilot plant.

Robert Woodhouse, Ph.D., will oversee the RTP facility as the newly appointed senior vice president and general manager. Woodhouse has provided senior leadership for Magellan's Analytical, Inhalation, Synthesis and Structural Chemistry Divisions and has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He served as the worldwide head of Inhalation Pharmaceutical Development for Glaxo Wellcome and director of Glaxo U.K. Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry before joining Magellan.

In addition, Jeffrey Browne, Ph.D., as executive director of the Pharmaceutics Division where he has served since its inception and manages drug formulation and manufacturing, will take on added leadership responsibilities within the Division.

"Bill, Bob and Jeff have proven their leadership capabilities during their tenures at Magellan, and with these appointments, we have the senior leadership in place to lead Magellan Pharmaceutical Development into the future," says Caudill.
