Magellan Pharmaceutical Development Advances Management

San Diego Biotech Facility Promotes Senior-level Executives to Expanded Roles

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (May 20, 2002) ) - Magellan Pharmaceutical Development, a full-service contract pharmaceutical development organization (PDO) formerly known as Magellan Laboratories and now owned by Cardinal Health, elevated Richard Kenley, Ph.D., to executive vice president and Robert Bergstrom, Ph.D., to vice president at the biotechnology facility located in San Diego, Calif.

Kenley was formerly a senior vice president at Magellan and will continue to manage the San Diego facility with added responsibilities that include directing the operations of the Research & Bioanalytical and Pharmaceutics Divisions, which are based in Research Triangle Park, N.C., and overseeing Cardinal Health's pharmaceutical development facility in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Albuquerque facility alignment allows Magellan to provide San Diego's mid-tier, virtual and biopharma clients with sterile, injectable drugs and biologics in liquid and lypholized (freeze-dried) formulations, capabilities that no company west of the Rockies can offer.

Also increasing his role in pharmaceutical development, Bergstrom will facilitate product development for clients and enhance collaboration between numerous service and capability offerings at Magellan. As the former executive director of pharmaceutical development at Magellan's biotech facility, Bergstrom facilitated growth in his division, from its inception to attaining a premiere status within the company.

"Rich and Bob are a clear representation of the level of experience that has made us an authority on pharmaceutical testing and development in the San Diego area and biotech industry," says Lowry Caudill, Ph.D., president of Pharmaceutical Development at Magellan. "This facility's expanded capabilities and principles of teamwork and partnership are invaluable to the success of the area's biotech and virtual pharma industries."
